Time and space in sculpture by Jiménez Deredia. Jiménez Deredia

The source of inspiration for Jiménez Deredia are the Pre-Columbian stone spheres made by the ancient Boruca civilization in the territory of Costa Rica more than 2000 years ago. The set of symbols connected with the sphere describes the transmutation of matter and beings in search of the self.

“Genesis of the Song to Life,” “Twilight,” “Continuation,” and “Sentinel” are the titles of some of the works sculptured in bronze that can be seen at La Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències. Spheres and circles change, move, and transform into living beings in Jiménez Deredia’s work. The artist’s genesis represents this transformation and is the central sculptural element in all his projects.

In all his years of activity, this Latin American artist and thinker has sculpted in marble and cast in bronze monumental works for museums and public places in 16 countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Latin America. He has also had 50 solo exhibitions and has participated in over 100 collective exhibitions.
