Fundación Hortensia Herrero is holding its third exhibition of monumental sculptures in Valencia. The latest exhibition will give the general public an insight into the aesthetic sensibilities of one of the world’s best sculptors. Seven of the sculptor’s works will be sited in Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences from the 26th of June to the 3rd of November 2019.
This exhibition brings together seven of Jaume Plensa’s monumental sculptures, which will create a dialogue with the space in which they are set, namely The City of Arts and Sciences. The sculptures all reflect the artist’s recent work.
Jaume Plensa (Barcelona,1955) is an internationally-renowned artist. His works have been exhibited in galleries, museums, and institutions around the world, including: Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona; Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas; Musée Picasso, Antibes; Yorkshire Sculpture Park, England; Palacio de Cristal–Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; MACBA Museu d’Art Contenporani, Barcelona; Biennale di Venezia, Venice; galleries in Paris, New York, and Chicago, with which the artist regularly works.
Many of his sculptures are designed for exhibition in public spaces. There are permanently installed works in various countries, including: Spain, France, Japan, Great Britain, Korea, Germany, Canada, The United States, Sweden, Norway, Australia, China.
Plensa has received many international awards, such as France’s Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and Spain’s Premio Velázquez de las Artes Plásticas. He has also been awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by The Art Institute of Chicago, and by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
