The Palau de les Arts has capacity for over 4,000 people at a time in its four auditoriums, which have state-of-the-art technology for opera, music, dance and theatre. The presentation of the Palau de les Arts to the public is planned for the 8th of October and the inaugural season will begin in October 2006.

The innovative architecture of this 40,000 square metre and 75 metre high building houses four large halls:  Sala Principal, Aula Magistral, Anfiteatro Superior and Sala de Cámara.

The Palau de les Arts, in its architectural aspects, stage equipment and artistic content, has been designed to equal the most prestigious opera houses in the world. It will also provide a setting for the most important performing arts events of the international arts circuit. In summary, it is to be a landmark on the international arts scene. 

In this way, the Palau de les Arts will put the Valencia region among the leading musical hotspots of the world, as befits the age-old musical tradition of this region.

By launching this centre, the Valencia region will also gain an important place from which to reinforce the arts in Valencia, in the fields of training and promotion of the many artistic resources we have in our region.

Variety of performances

This majestic building designed by Santiago Calatrava includes four different auditoriums for holding all kinds of performances:

- Sala Principal: This is the central core of the building, both structurally and thematically. With capacity for up to 1,800 people, it has been designed to offer opera, musicals, zarzuela, classical ballet, contemporary dance and symphony music.

- Aula Magistral: With a capacity of up to 400 people, this hall has been specially designed for lectures, educational meetings, readings, panel discussions and children’s theatre. Chamber music and recitals can also be performed here.

- Auditorio Superior: With a capacity of up to 1,800 spectators and devoted to symphonic concerts, recitals by singers and instrumentalists, opera in concert form and special performances of classical music with optical effects, video etc., this auditorium can also host performances in baroque opera, zarzuela and pop music.

- Sala de Cámara: With a capacity of up to 400 spectators, this hall is specifically for chamber music, contemporary experimental music and contemporary dance. But above all, it is the venue for the Academia de Perfeccionamiento in connection with the Plácido Domingo Singing Contest..
