FROM TODAY THE “VAULT OF LETTERS” OF THE CERVANTES INSTITUTE WILL HOLD THE LABORATORY NOTEBOOK OF SEVERO OCHOA

Severo Ochoa's 1956 laboratory notebook has been deposited in the “Vault of Letters” of the Cervantes Institute. This is a piece which makes up part of the scientist's full legacy received by the Museu de les Ciències and is owned by the Bancaja Foundation.

The Cervantes Institute has in its main headquarters a space known as the "Vault of Letters" which houses the legacies of more than 60 personalities from the worlds of culture, science, the arts, music, dance... On this occasion, the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències is loaning Severo Ochoa's 1956 laboratory notebook for a period of one year. This is a very important piece in that Ochoa captured in the notebook the work which earned the 1959 Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology, research that formed the fundamental basis for the study of the genetic code.

The event has been held in the presence of the minister of Science and Innovation, Pedro Duque; the director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero; the content manager of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, Miriam Atienza; and the counsellor of Culture of the Government of Asturias, Berta Piñán.
