The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum hosts Observatori 2004

Now in its fifth year, Observatori 2004 brings together the work of over 200 international artists and theoreticians from different creative fields, including Tortoise, Maurice Fulton, Toño Merinero, Tarwater, Francisco López, Brooks, Avelino Sala, Eugenio Ampudia, John Cage, Mona Hatoum, Organic Audio, Coco Fusco, Jordi Mollá and Toshiya Tsunoda. They will be meeting from the 8th to the 10th of October at the Príncipe Felipe Science Museu. Observatori 2004 is a forum for music, net-art, design, the plastic arts, performance arts, installation and video art. This year the theme of the event is “Cultures in migration”. It targets audiences, artists and creators and aims to provide a place for meeting and thinking. Observatori 2004 is, then, a platform for action which, under the name Art in Projects includes a total of 10 separate projects conceived and organised by artists who in turn invite other artists to take part in the development and realisation of their own projects. In this way Observatori 2004 acts as a generator of independent proposals based on collective intervention. In this 5th edition, Observatori will be looking into the archives of the Colectivo OVNI (Observatory of Unidentified Video), to rescue the best visual pieces by Yasmine Kassari, Luis Valdovino, Alex Muñoz, Zhor Riel, etc; and the most powerful installations of CoolCreation (Frank Planet, Barbara Held, Iñigo Bilbao, Marchesi, and Joseph Bofill among others) Delegates will also look at the best video performances in history (John Cage, Laurie Anderson, Coco Fusco, Mona Hatoum, etc); take an in-depth look at graphic design with the exhibition Renewed Energies by exhibition organisers Javier and Pablo Iglesias (AXT, Kanardo, OnClick, Nacho Gallego, Aníbal de la Fuente, Cubemen, Doma, Inocuo,...); explore its attraction to the hand-made and computer-generated net-art of the Area 3 group; without forgetting the electronic music which will again have a strong presence in this festival: Tortoise, Francisco López, Mattin & Taku Unami, Organic Audio, Ready Made, Charles Webster, Pepe Bradock,.. One of the most significant proposals this year is the MIGRA section with the collaboration of "Valencia Acoge". MIGRA presents a range of work on the subject of emigration: a whole variety of values, interests and views that define it as one of the key elements in contemporary culture. Notions such as the other, collective identities, acculturation, borders, economic exploitation, external paradise, the journey, etc., are concentrated here and take on human and symbolic dimensions. . Observatori Nocturn has moved to LeClub, and with its two stages, once again becomes the musical catalyst that brings the latest dance sounds up to the surface. From the highly personal sound of Maurice Fulton to the urban dub of F-On, via the dark bleep of Charles Webster.
