Morató: 'Campus Party makes the Valencia Region a showcase for new technologies'

The City of Arts and Sciences holds 'Campus Party' from July 26th to August 1st

General Manager of Project Coordination, Cristina Morató, has declared that by holding the Campus Party (26th July to 1st August at the City of Arts and Sciences), "the Valencia region will once again be the showcase and epicentre of new technologies for the entire world".

Cristina Morató, who attended the presentation of this year’s Campus Party, pointed out that since the event began, the Valencia regional government and the City of Arts and Sciences "have shared the objectives of Campus Party in terms of putting new knowledge within everyone’s reach and being a meeting point for fans of digital culture in its broadest sense".

The General Manager of Project Coordination said that the City of Arts and Sciences is committed to spreading knowledge and for that reason "our facilities are always open to hosting any events in which participants have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge in different fields"

Cristina Morató expressed the hope that the event will take place in "an atmosphere of entertainment and science, because of the high quality of the content" and she emphasized that in "this new era of interconnectivity and social networking, it makes us very proud to once again set the scene for this event, which in the past has foreseen the future that we are living today and that undoubtedly stands out as a campus for new ideas and trends on a global level".

Campus Party 2010

For one week, Campus Party will be offering different workshops, talks, demonstrations and competitions relating to science, astronomy and robotics; creativity in design, photography and video; innovation and digital leisure. Participants will therefore have the chance to attend lectures on Architecture in Space given by ESA astrophysicist Pedro García Laria; the Herschel space observatory, and new projects on robots for daily use, among many others.

The star guest at the innovation section will be one of the creators of Apple, Steve Wozniak, one of the most important figures in the history of computing and the creator of the laptop concept. He will be giving the opening lecture. Another of the stars of this year’s Campus Party is the advertising creative Oliveiro Toscani, who will speak on the evolution of creativity and photography from the perspective of new technologies.

Participants from every field and discipline will also be able to showcase their work and will be looking for support for their modding-related projects, students’ tools, website development for educational resources or new games, and other ideas.

The technology event will also have a charity area with two initiatives represented: "Green Campus" and "Project Boinc", computers to cure cancer. In Green Campus, people can help conserve the natural habitat of animals such as the chimpanzee by recycling mobile phones, or take part in the International Year of Biodiversity by sending pictures of the flora and fauna we have around us.
