Oceanográfico to host the "Amphorae from the Sea" exhibition
The City of Arts and Sciences’ aquarium, the Oceanográfico, will, until 28th February, be hosting an exhibition consisting of more than one hundred reproductions of amphorae of various sizes. These exhibits represent the trading spirit of ancient Mediterranean cultures, in that the Romans, Greeks and Phoenicians sold oil, wines, fruit and other packaged products in these containers.

The Oceanográfico aquarium of the City of Arts and Sciences is, from today, hosting the 1st World Marine Biodiversity Conference, which is bringing together, until next Saturday, more than five hundred researchers from 45 countries with the aim of exchanging knowledge, strategies and action plans on marine biodiversity and the management of its ecosystems throughout the world.

A team of veterinarians, made up of specialists both in marine turtles and in the most advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, today operated on two caretta caretta turtles with floatability problems in the Mediterranean Endoscopy Institute in Castellón.

The City of Arts and Sciences receives nearly 1.4 million visitors over the summer months
The City of Arts and Sciences received nearly 1.4 million visitors over the summer months. More specifically, in June, July and August over 715,000 people visited the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, nearly 175,000 people made up the audience for the Hemisfèric (IMAX and full dome) and its projections, and around 500,000 visitors walked around the facilities of the Oceanográfico (Aquarium).

Three seal lions and over forty birds are born at the Oceanográfico of the City of Arts and Sciences
The Oceanográfico of the City of Arts and Sciences (Aquarium) now has three new specimens of sea lions at its facilities, two males and a female weighing some 12 kilos. The pups have developed very fast and were already in the water the day after they were born.

The Hemisfèric holds the last show of the summer edition of "Las Nocturnas" ("Nocturnal shows")
The planetarium’s "Las Nocturnas" sessions are offering the last of the summer nights’ projection shows tomorrow 14th August at 22:30. The Oceanográfico gives "Los Mares Dulces de Galicia" an award in the International Underwater Picture Festival
The film “Los Mares Dulces de Galicia” (“Galicia’s Sweet Seas”) by the producer Manuel Enrique García Blanco won first prize in the full-length film category of the International Underwater Picture Festival, which is being held since last 7th May in the Oceanográfico (Aquarium) of the City of Arts and Sciences. In addition to its quality, the jury emphasised the originality and the combination of technique, filming, script and music.

More specifically, 45,409 people visited the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum over these days; 11,221 saw shows at the Hemisfèric (IMAX and Full Dome), and 34,301 people came to walk around the Oceanográfico (Aquarium)’s facilities.

The City of Arts and Sciences, Turismo Valencia Convention Bureau and ESIC award schoolchildren an end-of-year trip to Valencia
Sahagún Secondary School in León, with their project “Life is Beautiful”, has won the Destination Valencia Year 07/08 competition, organised by the City of Arts and Sciences, Turismo Valencia Convention Bureau (TVCB) and ESIC. The prize is an end-of-year trip to Valencia for 26 people, from the 25th to the 28th of April. It includes a guided tour of the old city centre and entry to the City of Arts and Sciences.

The Oceanográfico names the Oceans Tower, "Sylvia Earle" Tower in recognition of her education and conservation work in the field of marine environment
The City of Arts and Sciences’ Oceanográfico has renamed the Oceans Tower, which represents a voyage around the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to the Bermudas, as the “Sylvia Earle” Tower, as a tribute to this underwater explorer and oceanographer in recognition of her important scientific and educational contribution.

The City of Arts and Sciences’ Oceanográfico has today hold the final of the “Marine Mini-League” , where the CP Angelina has been awarded inplace of the Salesianos San Juan Bosco school. Both centres have reached the final of this competition, organised for the second year running, in which 5th year primary pupils pit their wits on different marine ecosystems, their inhabitants and their conservation.

One out of 3,000 people have some kind of disability due to a serious congenital neuromuscular disorder. Genes have now been identified that are associated with neuromuscular disorders, proving that there is a wide genetic range of diseases in the peripheral nervous system.

More than 1,600 cetacea detected off the Valencia Region coastline
More than 1,600 cetacea, among them dolphins, pilot whales, finback whales and sperm whales, have been detected off the coast of the Valencia Region over the 2003 to 2008 period, where there has been around 100 sightings in the 2,730 miles covered. These are the main findings of the cetacea detection study presented today by the General Manager for Environmental Management, Maria Angeles Centeno, the General Manager of the City of Arts and Sciences, Jorge Vela, and the Vice-Chancellor for Research at the University of Valencia, Esteban Morcillo.

The "Woman. One body, one life" exhibition gives a multidisciplinary vision of the female universe
To provide a multidisciplinary vision of the female universe is the main aim of the exhibition entitled “Woman. One body, one life”. The Vice-President for the economy and President of the CACSA Board of Directors, Gerardo Camps, today praised “both the economic and social profitability that the Oceanográfico has achieved since it opened, five years ago”. The City of Arts and Sciences Club will allow unlimited admission to the entire complex or to selected buildings over one year
The “City of Arts and Sciences Club” is a new offer aimed at those members of the general public who would like to have an annual pass for unlimited access to the complex. These passes will be available in different forms. This initiative, beginning on Friday 15th February, is directed at the public in general, although it has been designed with residents of the Valencia Region and neighbouring areas in mind, given that their proximity to the City of Arts and Sciences will allow them to use the pass more often.

New "disABILITY" exhibition in the Principe Felipe Science Museum
The Principe Felipe Science Museum inaugurated today the new “disABILITY” exhibition, which intends to create awareness about the daily obstacles faced by those who suffer some kind of disability as well as their innumerable capabilities. It has been created by Fundación Grupo SIFU, currently one of the most important Special Centres of employment in Spain. The regional Social Welfare secretary, David Calatayud, the City of Arts and Sciences’ General Director, Jorge Vela, and Grupo Sifu’s Managing Director, Cristian Rovira, participated in the act.

The Finnish “Him” and Americans “From First to Last” make up MTV Winter’s line-up on 5th March to be held in the City of Arts and Sciences. The two groups will thus be joining “The Cure”, who are heading the line-up and will be kicking off MTV Winter, a musical event that will be bringing a series of free concerts to Valencia over the next four years, and which will make the City of Arts and Sciences one of the places to be for European music.

The City of Arts and Sciences has stood out in the International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2008, as an international reference in cultural tourism and image par excellence projected abroad of the Valencian Community Region, thanks to its ability to house first class events on both a national and international level, and as a great tourist attraction for millions of visitors every year.

Doctors Venter and Collingridge receive the 2008 Santiago Grisolía Chair Awards
Doctors Craig Venter, president and f0under of the J.Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), and Graham L. Collingridge, professor of Neuroscience and director of the MRC Centre for Synaptic Plasticity at the University of Bristol, have received the 2008 Santiago Grisolía Chair Awards, which are organised by the Chair assigned to the City of Arts and Sciences Foundation.

Over 210,000 people enjoyed the culture and leisure on offer in the City of Arts and Sciences over the Christmas period
A total of 212,000 people enjoyed the culture and leisure activities on offer in the City of Arts and Sciences over the Christmas period. From 22nd December until today 6th January, more than 177,00 people have visited the CAC buildings. More specifically, the Prince Felipe Science Museum has received around 120,000 visitors, the Oceanographic Park over 40,000, and the Hemisfèric more than 17.000 in audience.
