The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum hosts the Science of Spying exhibition until April 1st 2008. Children are invited to become spies for the day, to learn about their investigation and surveillance techniques and to even fight a secret organisation.

The Cure start their Spanish tour on 5th March at the City of Arts and Sciences as part of the MTV Winter concert
“The Cure” will head the list of singers in the first edition of MTV Winter concert, to be held on 5th March 2008 at the City of Arts and Sciences. It will be the first concert of the British band in their Spanish tour. Admission to the Valencia concert will be free of charge.

The Science Museum introduces the exhibition: "Climate Change. Questions and Answers"
The general director for Climate Change, Jorge Lamparero, and the director of Social Works at Caixa Catalunya, Miquel Perdiguer, today inaugurated the exhibition “Climate Change. Questions and Answers,” created by Caixa Catalunya Obra Social - Fundació Territori i Paisatge (Foundation for Territory and Landscape), which will remain in the Science Museum until 1st April 2008.

The Simpsons, snowboard & sledge slopes, story telling, workshops and theatre in the City of Arts and Sciences
The City of Arts and Sciences has programmed a series of special activities for the Christmas period that includes a wide range of leisure ideas such as workshops, story telling, snowboard and sledge slopes, an area dedicated to Formula 1, the presentation of Laura Gallego’s latest book with the author in person, a party based on the famous character Tintin, and the Oceanographic Park will be run along the theme of the Simpsons’ famous hometown, Springfield.

Toharia emphasises the Science Museum´s "special sensitivity" to spreading knowledge about action against climate change
The director of the Science Museum, Manuel Toharia, today expressed his “great satisfaction” at the announcement made yesterday by the President of the Generalitat (Valencian Regional Government), Francisco Camps, making the Museum the management centre for the new R & D technological park against climate change. Toharia considered this to be “a positive challenge and a great sign of confidence in the work carried out in the City of Arts and Sciences, where we also have a special sensitivity towards educating society in what must be known and done to alleviate climate change”.

Arca del Mar, the Oceanográfico´s new facility for treating turtles and dolphins
The Valencia Region today has the most up-to-date facilities in Spain for caring for turtles and dolphins, claimed the Regional Minister for the Environment, Water, Urban Planning and Housing, José Ramón García Antón, during the presentation of this new centre in the L’Oceanogràfic. He also added that this “represents, without a doubt, a landmark in the conservation of these threatened species of the Mediterranean”.

The Hemisfèric shows off its new digital projection system for the first time with three new films
The Hemisfèric of the City of Arts and Sciences will, tomorrow, be employing its new digital projection system for the first time on its full dome. Its programme will, therefore, be enriched as it now has two different projection systems for its 900 square metre concave screen: cinema in Imax dome grand format and the new digital projections.

Un total de 35 alumnos de quinto de primaria de Escuelas Pías San Joaquín de Valencia han pasado la noche en la torre de Océanos del Oceanográfico y conciliado el sueño rodeados de tiburones. El centro escolar resultó ganador del sorteo que la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias organizó para disfrutar de la actividad "Dormir con tiburones"
entre todos los colegios que visitaron el complejo durante el curso 2006-2007"

The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum celebrates its 7th anniversary with an open day conference
The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum is, next Tuesday 13th November, to celebrate its seventh anniversary. Entrance to its installations will, as a result, be free of charge. The second of the City of Arts and Sciences’ buildings to be opened to the public, it was built with the aim of arousing curiosity and the critical spirit by endeavouring to surprise and delight the public through the contents that it provides.

The Oceanográfico puts on an exhibition on the ecological importance of coral
The Oceanográfic of the City of Arts and Sciences is hosting, until 31st March 2008, an exhibition entitled “Corals, architects of the ocean”, in which, by means of graphic items and pieces of coral, it aims to raise awareness on the biological universe that gave rise to this zoological species, as well as the important role that corals play from an ecological view in ocean dynamics.

International experts to discuss scientific advances in Reproductive Medicine
From 8th to 10th November, the Principe Felipe Science Museum will be holding an International Symposium on Reproductive Medicine at which 200 doctors and researchers from all over the world will be discussing applied research in this field. More than 100,000 people visit the City of Arts and Sciences during the 9th October and Columbus Day long weekend holidays
A total of 104,000 people visited the City of Arts and Sciences during the 9th October and Columbus Day long weekend holidays. 77 % of those visitors came from outside the Valencia Region and 27% of them were foreign tourists mainly from Italy, England and Germany. 50% were from other autonomous regions of Spain, in particular from Catalonia, Andalusia, and Madrid. The remaining 23% were Valencians.

The City of Arts and Sciences is to host the first MTV Winter musical event in February 2008
It was announced today by the General Manager for Project Coordination, José Luis Villanueva, and the MTV representatives , Antonio Campo Dall’Orto, Managing Director of MTV South, and Raffaele Annechino, SVP General Manager Iberia that, for four days, the City of Arts and Sciences will be the venue for the MTV Winter music event, following the signing of an agreement between the educational complex and the television channel.

The Hemisfèric installs a full dome digital projection system
As from November the Hemisfèric of the City of the Arts and Sciences will include the most advanced full dome digital projection system currently available. This new kind of projection will allow viewers to immerse themselves in the world of astronomy and digital animation. As a result of the installation of this system, the Projection Hall of the Hemisfèric will be closed from 15 to 31 October.

Tomorrow, Thursday 4th October, is the fiftieth anniversary of the date when the Soviet Union put, for the first time in history, an unmanned artificial satellite, the Sputnik, into orbit around the earth. For this reason, the City of Arts and Sciences has organised a series of activities to commemorate that event.

"Oceanográfico Tuesdays" devotes its new season to climate change and its relationship with the oceans
Oceanic dynamics, as a phenomenon responsible for climate change and the possible effects of that change on marine biodiversity and resources, both throughout the world and on a regional scale, in the case of the Mediterranean, will be the central theme of this fourth edition of “Oceanográfico Tuesdays” which, today, has been presented by the Oceanográfico’s management control director, Francisco Torner, accompanied by the CSIC (Spanish National Research Centre) research professor, Carlos Duarte, one of the world’s leading experts in this field, and who is also presenting a paper during this cycle of conferences.

Tomorrow the Science Museum facilitates observation of Jupiter
Tomorrow, on Thursday 13th September, the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum is the venue for astronomical observation of the planet Jupiter. The Hemisféric releases in Spain the IMAX production "The Alps"
As from Friday 14th September, the Hemisfèric of the City of the Arts and Sciences will include in its programme the IMAX film “The Alps”. This will be the Spanish première of this production, which relates John Harlin’s ascent of the north face of the Eiger, one of the world’s most famous peaks and known to climbers for its unpredictable weather conditions and its fragile stone, which may cause fatal landslides. Indeed, in 1966 John Harlin’s father died during his climb of this legendary mountain.

A common seal is born at the Oceanográfico of the City of Arts and Sciences
The Oceanográfico of the City of Arts and Sciences has a new attraction within its installations. It is a common or harbour seal, the third of that species to be born in the aquarium devoted to temperate seas, following the birth in 2003 and 2005 of the first common seal pups.

International experts to debate the latest breakthroughs in the treatment of hyperamonemia and hepatic encephalopathy

The City of Arts and Sciences has received visits from 1,580,000 tourists over the summer months
During the months of June, July and August, the City of Arts and Sciences welcomed 1,580,000 tourists, “beating all the records of last year, not only in the complex as a whole, with 180,000 more visitors, but in each of the different areas of the City of Arts and Sciences” stressed the deputy vice-president of the Regional government and Regional Minister for the Economy, Inland Revenue and Employment, Gerardo Camps.

The Oceanográfico to host a private showing of the film 'Shark Bait'
The Oceanográfico of the City of Arts and Sciences is to hold a private showing of the cartoon film “Shark Bait” next Saturday at 12 a.m. The film tells the story of a little fish called Chip who, after losing everything, decides to travel to an exotic reef and sets out on an adventure that will change the life of all the reef’s inhabitants.

The Museum hosts the exhibition: 'Shattered dreams: caught in a vicious circle in Colombia'
From today, the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum is hosting the exhibition: “Shattered dreams: caught in a vicious circle in Colombia”, an exhibition mounted by the international, medical-humanitarian organisation, Médicos Sin Fronteras (MSF). The exhibition shows, through a collection of images, children's drawings and audiovisual testimonies, the effects that the conflict experienced by this South American country is having on the mental and physical health of the civilian population.

The City of Arts and Sciences is the tourist site that most Spanish people have the intention of visiting according to a survey carried out in 2006 that concluded that this cultural promotion centre has the greatest market potential amongst all the large scale tourism, culture and leisure sites, two thirds of all Spaniards expressly stating their intention of visiting it.

Tiger Nut Week has featured a children´s workshop in which youngsters have learnt to make drinks using tiger nut milk and original desserts with Valencia tiger nuts.
Until Sunday 29 July the City of the Arts and Sciences is holding a week devoted to Tiger Nut Milk, which has been organised in collaboration with the Regulatory Council of the Valencia Tiger Nut Milk Mark of Origin. “Tiger nut milk in four textures”, ”Thickened tiger nut milk in Kataifi with a sauce of honey, orange blossom, and dates”, and “Bread fried in batter and cold tiger nut cream” were the dishes produced by Amparo Raga, the teacher from the Valencia Tourist Centre.

The City of Arts and Sciences holds "Horchata Week"
The City of Arts and Sciences has organised an Horchata Week from 23rd to 29th July, where the public will have the opportunity to find out about all the nutritional properties of this foodstuff, its history, the areas of the Mediterranean in which it is produced and consumed , as well as the different ways of preparing it through workshops, courses and demonstrations. There will also be an exhibition with information on how tiger nuts are cultivated.

“Oceanográfico Nights” includes a night-time session at the Dolphinarium at 10.30 p.m. where a synchronised swimming team made up of six swimmers will be accompanied in their routine by dolphins together with images and music exclusively composed for this show.

The jaw of the dolphin pup stranded on the Oliva Beach on 9 July and then transferred to the Oceanográfico has been broken in two places
According to the centre’s veterinary team, it is hard to predict the medium- and long-term evolution of the animal. However, the double fracture in the dolphin’s jaw and the fact that it is difficult for such young pups to recover does not leave much room for optimism.

The Oceanographic Park´s night time exhibitions synchronised swimming team rehearse with the dolphins
The synchronised swimming team that is to take part in the night time exhibitions in the Oceanographic Park’s Dolphinarium today rehearsed with the dolphins. From 17th July to 31st August, the six swimmers will be putting on a demonstration at 22:30 within the “Oceanographic Nights” programme. In the demonstrations they will combine their exercises with the dolphins, with a projection of images and music composed exclusively for this exhibition.

The children in The Oceanographic Park´s Summer School spend the night among sharks
The children from 6 to 12 years old participating in the Oceanographic Park’s Summer School this week had the opportunity to spend last night in the “Oceans” tower and experience the feeling of sleeping among sharks. After taking part in a games contest yesterday and participating in workshops and different activities, they fell asleep with thousands of fish and sharks swimming above their heads. The Oceanographic Park’s Summer School, which nearly 200 children have enrolled in, will continue from the 2nd until 6th July, and from 19th to 13th July.

The Oceanográfico of the City of the Arts and Sciences starts its summer school
On Monday 25 June the third edition of the summer school run by the Oceanográfico of the City of Arts and Sciences begins. Its activities are aimed at children aged between 6 and 12 and will be held during the months of June and July. For five days some 70 children will be immersed in the marine world accompanied by qualified group leaders, with whom they will discover new experiences in the form of games and workshops.

The Oceanographic Park of the City of Arts and Sciences has received 15 specimens of ocean sunfish on its premises. This species can be seen in the Oceans tank sharing the space with sharks, rays, sawfish and large shoals of bonito.

Jellyfish, sea horses and sea dragons join the biological collection of the Oceanografico
Four aquariums devoted to jellyfish, seahorses and sea dragons make up the new installation of the Oceanográfico at the City of Arts and Sciences. This exhibition aims not only to exhibit these species, but also to transmit the conservation message, especially for seahorses that are exposed to threats from direct exploitation and accidental capture through non-selective fishing techniques and, above all, as a result of the degradation of their habitat.

The Oceanográfico to take part in a study on automatic beluga whale detection techniques in Norway
The Oceanográfico’s research team at the City of Arts and Science, in collaboration with the Norwegian Polar Institute, will be taking part, from today until 17th May, in a study on the Svalbard islands (Norway) to test automatic beluga whale detection techniques. The councillor for Economy, Treasury and Employment signs the agreement for cooperation between the City of Arts and Sciences and the Crecer Jugando Foundation
The councillor for Economy, Treasury and Employment, Gerardo Camps, stated that the “challenge of the campaign “One toy, one hope” for next year lies in manufacturing one and a half million toys such that they can reach 500,000 children around the world”. Gerardo Camps made these declarations during the signing of the agreement for cooperation subscribed to this morning in the Alicante town of Ibi, with the president of the “Crecer Jugando” foundation, José Antonio Pastor, to start up the 8th edition of the “One toy, one hope” solidarity campaign that the City of Arts and Sciences has sponsored from the beginning.

The Oceanographic Park of the City of Arts and Sciences opens its Summer School for the third year
The Oceanographic park of the City of Arts and Sciences is organising its Summer School for the third year running, aimed at children between 6 and 12 years of age, for the coming months of June and July. The main aim of this Summer School is to encourage new attitudes among the group and learning through fun. For five days, the children will be submerged in the marine world accompanied by qualified monitors, through games and workshops.

Researchers at the Oceanográfico study the auditory sensitivity of Beluga Whales
The Oceanográfico’s research team at the City of Arts and Sciences is undertaking a scientific study, in collaboration with the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology of the United States, to measure the hearing ability of beluga whales using electro-physiological methods, a study that will enable scientists to define the sounds that these animals hear best under the water.

A didactic workshop on books and a reading chain to celebrate International Book Day in the City of Arts and Sciences
Next Monday, 23 April, will be International Book Day. This event is promoted by the UNESCO with the aim of commemorating books and encouraging culture and the protection of intellectual property by means of copyright. Because of this, the City of Arts and Sciences takes part in this international event with an entire day devoted to the reading of great literary stories and to their authors.

The Oceanographic opens a new installation with jellyfish, seahorses and sea dragons
The Oceanográfico has opened a new installation, within the Temperate Zone, consisting of four aquariums devoted to jellyfish, seahorses and sea dragons. This is a new exhibition that the public will be able to visit during the Holy Week and Easter festivals, sponsored by Caja Duero through the City of Arts and Sciences Foundation.

International experts present the latest advances in reproduction in oncological patients
The Prince Felipe Science Museum holds the International Symposium on Cancer and Reproduction from 25th to 27th March, organized by the Chair Santiago Grisolía, City of Arts and Sciences Foundation, in cooperation with the local government’s Health Department. This event will bring together the main world experts in preservation of fertility, who will give an up-to-date view of the reproductive problems that affect oncological patients, and how to tackle them.

The Fallera Mayor of Valencia and her Court of Honour visit "Titanic The Exhibition"
The Fallera Mayor* of Valencia (*Fallas’ lady of honour named each year), Marta Reglero, accompanied by her Court of Honour, visited “Titanic The Exhibition”, the new exhibition incorporated into the City of Arts and Sciences last 1st March within the Prince Felipe Science Museum’s programme. Marta and her Court of Honour looked around the lower floor of the “Umbracle” (shaded walkway) where the display is located. It is the largest exhibition set up to date about the history of the mythical ship.

Pablo Areitio named new director of the Oceanographic park
Pablo Areitio Toledo, Technical Director of Biology at the Oceanographic park of the City of Arts and Sciences since 2002, has today been named director of the Oceanographic park, substituting Juan José de Torres. Since his arrival at this Centre in 2002, he has been involved in setting up and establishing its animal population, coordinating the areas of marine mammals, fish, veterinary matters and research.

International experts debate measures to protect belugas and the effects of climate change in the Arctic
The Oceanographic park of the City of Arts and Sciences is holding from today until next Sunday, 11th March, the first meeting of international experts on belugas. They will analyse the main topics for the conservation and protection of this species, as well as the effects of climate change on these cetaceans and thus by extension the effects on the Arctic ecosystem.

International scientific experts on Beluga whales meet for the first time at the Oceanográfico
The Oceanográfico of the City of Arts and Sciences has organised, from 9th to 11th March, the 1st International Workshop on Beluga Whale Research, at which world scientists specialising in the study of beluga whales will be meeting for the first time and in which representatives of all the arctic countries (U.S.A., Canada, Russia, Norway, Denmark and Island) will be taking part. The meeting will focus on themes concerning beluga whales held in aquariums throughout the world, especially in Japan, Canada and the U.S.A. and representatives of native Eskimo communities from the arctic regions of Alaska and Canada will also be attending.

From today, the City of Arts and Sciences is recreating the history of the Titanic in an exhibition that presents original objects, images and documents in the largest exhibition so far mounted in these installations. The City of Arts and Sciences will, for the first time, exhibit the 1910 Brush D-24 car, which the Titanic was to have transported on its return voyage to Europe
The City of Arts and Sciences is to exhibit for the first time, the automobile that the Titanic was to load in New York to take to London for its presentation in Europe. The car was the 1910 Brush D-24, that is to form part of “Titanic. The Exhibition” , which will officially open to the public on 1st March and which will recreate the history of that legendary ship through original objects, images and documents.

IES Río de los Granados de Guarroman de Jaén, has won the competition “Destination Valencia Course 05/06” (www.destinovalencia.com), organised by the City of Arts and Sciences and Tourism Valencia. The prize consists of an end-of-school trip to Valencia for 30 individuals from 13th to 16th April including, among other things, a guided tour to the historical centre of the city and admission to the City of Arts and Sciences.

The Oceanografico of the City of Arts and Sciences is today celebrating its fourth anniversary and to do so it has organised a videoconference with the Antarctic in which the Head of the Veterinary Service of the Oceanográfico, Daniel García, who since January has been at the Antarctic base of “Gabriel de Castilla” on Deception Island, collaborating with the Army’s Antarctic Campaign research into parasites in marine mammals.

The City of Arts and Sciences receives the FEVEC-AVEA 2006 award for urban development.
The City of Arts and Sciences has received the Special Prize for Urban Development awarded by the Valencia Federation of Construction Entrepreneurs (FEVEC) for its “ huge impact on the overall image of the city and on its international projection” as well as for its important effect on the urban development of the city”. The General Director of the City of Arts and Sciences, Jorge Vela, received the award from the Regional Minister for Territory and Housing, Esteban González Pons.

International experts to discuss scientific advances in the field of Proteomics from 10th to 14th February at the Science Museum
The keynote speech of the 2002 Nobel Prize winner for chemistry, John B. Science Museum to offer a new Science on Stage workshop with latest generation robots
The director of the Science Museum, Manuel Toharia, today presented “Robots”, the new workshop dedicated to artificial intelligence that enables spectators to discover, through directly manipulating robots, the importance of robotics and its present day applications. This new workshop forms part of “Science on Stage”, a set of interactive demonstrations and live scientific experiments that are undertaken at the Museum with public participation.

Almost 200,000 people enjoyed the leisure attractions organised by the City of Arts and Sciences over the Christmas period
Almost 200,000 people enjoyed the leisure attractions organised by the City of Arts and Sciences over the Christmas period. More specifically, more than 150,000 people visited CAC buildings. The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum received around 95,000 visitors, the Oceanográfico more than 40,000 and the Hemisfèric around 16,000 spectators. Moreover, during the holding of the Christmas Festival, now in its sixth year, there was a wide programme of activities. The City of Arts and Sciences received more than 30,000 people. More than 10,000 people enjoyed the skating rink that was installed on the Science Museum’s lake until today, 7th January.
