Top Sailing! A new exhibition at the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum
The Science Museum has, this Christmas, included an interactive exhibition within the provision of scientific and cultural events normally held on this site. This is “Top Sailing”, which, directly linked with the holding of the 32nd America’s Cup in Valencia next year, takes the wind, the sea and navigation as its main themes.

More than 190,000 people visit the City of Arts and Sciences over the Constitution Day and 'Inmaculada' Holidays
The City of Arts and Sciences received more than 190,000 visitors over the “Constitution Day and “Inmaculada” holidays, last Friday, 8th December, being the day when the greatest figure for public attendance at the L’Hemisfèric, the Science Museum and the Oceanográfico was recorded, with a total of 42,613 visitors to the three venues.

The Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias holds its 6th Christmas Festival on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December
On Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December, the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is holding its Christmas Festival for the sixth year running, which will include a wide variety of leisure activities such as theatre, workshops, animations and a skating rink on the lake of the Museo de las Ciencias that will be operating from Tuesday 5th December to 7th January. In addition, representatives from the TV programme “Mira quien baila” will undertake a demonstration and give a dance class to the public that attends the Festival.

The Museo de las Ciencias hosts the International Conference on Food Contaminants and Neurodevelopmental Disorders
To present the latest research on the effects of the contaminants existing in the food chain on cerebral development and to discuss the possible implications of this research on European policy are the main aims of the International Conference on Food Contaminants and Neurodevelopment Disorders, organised by the University Professor Santiago Grisolía, as member of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias Foundation, and which is to be held from tomorrow at the Museo de las Ciencias.

Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias to host the 'Titanic' exhibition in Valencia
The regional secretary for Events and promotions, Luis Lobón and the representative of “Titanic Centenary 2012”, Jesús Ferreiro, have today signed an agreement so that the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias will host, from March 1st 2007 to 30th March 2008, the “Titanic exhibition, which recreates the history of that legendary ship through original objects, images and documents.

The third year of 'L'Oceanogràfic Tuesdays' to be dedicated to polar seas
The Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias tomorrow begins its third edition of “L’Oceanogràfic Tuesdays” with the conference “the Antarctic continent and its surrounding ocean, the last untouched parts of the planet”, to be given by the director of the French Polar Institute, Gérard Jugie. Coinciding with International Polar Year, this year’s cycle of conferences is dedicated entirely to the polar seas and their surroundings.

The beluga whale born at the Oceanográfico dies twenty-five days after its birth
Despite the efforts of veterinary surgeons and carers to prevent it and the constant vigilance of mother and baby, the beluga whale born last 2nd November and for the first time in a European Zoological Centre, died at 12:15 today Monday, 27th November.

Winners of the 9th Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias Christmas Art Competition
The art work of Eugenio Romero Martín, pupil in 2nd of ESO at the Colegio Marti Sorolla II of Valencia, has won the 9th Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias Christmas Art Competition to which more than one thousand primary and secondary pupils of the Valencia Region presented their work. The winning entry is to be the Christmas greetings image for the Valencia Regional Government’s scientific, leisure and cultural complex.

The baby beluga is now two weeks old, but still of an uncertain future.
The baby beluga whale born last November 2nd, a male, has just completed two weeks of life, although its possibilities of survival continue to be slim, as explained the Oceanográfic’s Director of Biology, Pablo Areitio, and the head of the veterinary service, Daniel García.

Oceanogràfic's Dolphinarium to remain closed to improve and reform the installation
The Oceanográfico’s Dolphinarium at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias will remain closed over the Inmaculada holidays and over the next three months so as to repair and improve the main pool so that it can host future projects to enrich the Oceanográfic’s activities.

Museo de las Ciencias celebrates its 6th anniversary with around 18 million visitors.
Around 18 million people have visited the Museo de las Ciencias since it was opened to the public on 13th November 2000. Coinciding with its sixth anniversary, the Museum is this weekend hosting the annul meeting of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Scientific Communication.

The Hemisfèric hosts the photographic exhibition "POSITHIV+" of Médicos sin Fronteras
The photographer Pep Bonet visited six African countries and accompanied Médicos sin Fronteras with his camera. The Hemisfèric renews its autumn programme with the IMAX production "Coral Reefs"
L´Hemisfèric of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias will include, from next Friday 15th September, the IMAX film “Coral Reefs”, which tells the story of two explorers and researchers’ expedition over a ten month journey. The film shows the most spectacular sea beds on the planet, such as the Australian coral reef, the islands of Fiji and Tahiti and the Rangiroa Atoll, places which so far now have only been accessible to expert divers and which the spectators will be able to enjoy through this new IMAX film in L´Hemisfèric

The Oceanográfic has the first pregnant Beluga Whale in captivity in Europe
The Regional Minister of the Inland Revenue and Employment and President of the CACSA Board of Directors, Gerardo Camps today spoke of the research and reproduction in captivity projects that are being developed at the Oceanográfic and which “have made it an internationally recognised centre of the utmost importance”. The biology and veterinary team announced that the Beluga whale “Yulka” is pregnant, an event that they referred to as “extraordinary”. It will be the first birth in captivity of this species recorded in Europe.

The children of the L´Oceanogràfic Summer School take part in a baptism in the sea and sleep with sharks
L’Oceanogràfic of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias has organised, for the second year running, the Summer School, aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 12. This Thursday, 20th July, among other activities, sixty children have participated at 10 a.m. in a baptism in the sea, in the afternoon a gymkhana and at night sleep in the “Océanos” tower surrounded by sharks.

L´Oceanogràfic dedicates an exhibition to Spanish scientific research in the Antarctic
Fourteen million square kilometres of ice, temperatures of 88º C below zero and winds in excess of 200 kilometres per hour, with days and nights that last six months. Luis Lobón underlines the collaboration between the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias and Universities at the 2nd Idea Awards event.
The Regional Secretary for Events and Projects, Luis Lobón, today stressed, during the handing over of the II Ideas Awards ceremony, that “we share some common aims with the university, daily work with and for young people”. In this sense, he explained that the aim of the Idea Awards “is to support the Universities of the Valencia Region and to reward annually young university teachers and researchers that are especially outstanding in their careers and future prospects in each of the rewarded specialities”.

The Oceanográfic will extend its opening times during the World Meeting of the Families
To celebrate the Fifth World Families Meeting 2006 (WFM), the Oceanográfic of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is to extend its opening times to the public from Saturday 1st July to Tuesday 11th July so as to facilitate visits by the public who have come to Valencia between these dates. From the 1st to the 11th of July, the Oceanográfic will open its doors at 10 a.m. and can be visited up until midnight.

The Science Museum hosts the original film of Shackleton¿s expedition.
The Museo de las Ciencias Príncipe Felipe tomorrow, 17th May, will be showing the film “South”, the original film shot to finance the Antarctic expedition of Ernest Shackleton. The film shot by the official photographer of the expedition, Frank Hurley, relates the adventures of Shackleton and his men and includes images that, at that time, were a novelty and of great interest.

The City of Arts and TVCB award pupils an end-of-year trip to Valencia
The IES Rey Pelayo de Cangas de Onís School in Asturias is the winner of the competition entitled “Destination Valencia Year 05/06”, organised by the City of Arts and Sciences and Turismo Valencia Convention Bureau (TVCB). The prize was an end-of-year trip to Valencia for 30 people, from the 5th to the 8th of May, which included a guided tour of the old part of the city and entry to the City of Arts and Sciences.

Over 300,000 visitors at the City of Arts and Sciences over Easter
The City of Arts and Sciences has received over 300,000 visitors over the Easter holidays, the busiest day being Good Friday, with a total of 33,102 visitors. The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum had 148.,434 visitors, L’Oceanogràfic 114,507 people and L’Hemisfèric was at 100% capacity with 42,091 visitors, leading to extra sessions on the 14th, 15th and 16th April.

The Science Museum holds an exhibition entitled ¿Living Bones¿
The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum is holding a new exhibition, “Living Bones”, which educates the public on bones and their main afflictions. “Living Bones” was opened today by the regional secretary for Events and Projects, Luis Lobón, who pointed out that this exhibition helps to “promote health education amongst the public by means of twenty or so interactive modules that give us greater knowledge of this part of our anatomy”.

The ¿Astronomy at the Museum¿ series holds a workshop on photographing the moon
Tomorrow, the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum is holding a workshop on photographing the moon and the necessary techniques for capturing these images. The event forms part of the “Astronomy at the Museum 2006” series, and in it participants can take their own pictures of the moon from the northern viewpoint, where there will be four large telescopes.

L´Hemisfèric incorpora la nueva película IMAX "Fuerzas de la Naturaleza" en su programación
L'Hemisfèric de la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias incorpora a partir del viernes, 3 de febrero, la película en gran formato "Fuerzas de la Naturaleza", con sesiones de lunes a domingo, a las 16:00 y 18:00 horas. El film muestra fenómenos geológicos y atmosféricos y traslada al espectador a los mayores desastres naturales del planeta.

The City of Arts and Sciences signs a collaboration agreement with RENFE Main Lines
The regional secretary for Events and Projects, Luis Lobón and the General Manager of RENFE Main Lines, Francisco Bonache, today signed an agreement between the City of Arts and Sciences and the train company to establish a framework for regulating cooperation between the two organisations, from which to promote train transportation services and the scientific and cultural offer provided by the CAC complex.
