The Science Museum holds a new exhibition on the machines of Leonardo da Vinci
From today and until the 24th February, the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum is holding an exhibition entitled "Leonardo’s Machines". It displays 12 sculptural machines and reproductions of the drawings made 400 years ago by Leonardo da Vinci.

Theatre. Music, storytelling and workshops at the City of Arts and Sciences Christmas Festival
This weekend the City of Arts and Sciences is holding its 5th Christmas Festival, a broad programme of free events at the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum and L’Hemisfèric and children’s rate entry to L’Oceanogràfic. Three plays, storytelling, performers, workshops and a concert by the famous TV characters “The Tweenies” are among the events on offer this year.

The Science Museum hosts the presentation of the study on the Social Perception of Science and Technology in Spain 2004
Tomorrow, Friday the 9th of December, the Director of the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum and Chairman of the Spanish Association of Scientific Journalism (AEPC), Manuel Toharia, and the Director of Programmes and Studies of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), José Manuel Báez Cristóbal, will present the study “The Social Perception of Science and Technology in Spain 2004”, which analyses how Spaniards perceive and consider science. They will also present “The AEPC’s 2005 Annual”.

Over 2,000 people observe the annular eclipse of the Sun from the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum
At the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum today over 2,000 people observed the annular eclipse of the Sun, considered the most important astronomic phenomenon of the year. The City of Arts and Sciences, as part of the astronomy programme provided free to the public, set up the observation with telescopes on the northern terrace of the Science Museum. There were considerable crowds gathered from early in the morning.

From today the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum in the Calle Mayor is holding a photographic exhibition entitled “Severo Ochoa. A life devoted to science”, to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the Spanish Nobel prize winner on the 24th of September. The exhibition brings together a collection of large-scale photographs that give visitors an insight into the life of this famous researcher and the different stages in his career.

L´Hemisfèric adds the new IMAX film ¿Dolphins¿ to its programme
From today, Friday the 16th September, L’Hemisfèric at the City of Arts and Sciences is incorporating the IMAX film “Dolphins” into its film schedule, with sessions at 11 am and 6 pm from Monday to Sunday and also at 8 pm on Fridays and weekends. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary, the film narrates the journey from the Bahamas to Argentine Patagonia of a team of researchers studying the communication and social behaviour of dolphins. L´Hemisfèric is also renovating its offer with the live planetarium shows it has itself produced, “The New Star”, aimed at children.

The City of Arts and Sciences launches its Educational Programme for the 2005/2006 school year
Schools from all over Spain are receiving the educational programme of the City of Arts and Sciences for the school year 2005-2006, which lays out the content of its services for schools at L´Hemisfèric, the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum and L´Oceanogràfic. Over the coming weeks, there will also be meetings with teacher from bordering provinces and presentations in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and Malaga.

The first three sea lions are born at the Oceanogràfic of the City of the Arts and Sciences
The Oceanogràfic of the City of the Arts and Sciences has three new animals on its premises. They are the first sea lions to have been born in the Islas exhibition, an area in the open air precinct of the Oceanogràfic that takes as a reference the islands situated along the South American coast, which are characterised by the large sea lion colonies of Patagonia.

Five specimens of the Bull Ray join the Ocean Tunnel of the Oceanogràfic
Five specimens of the Bull Ray (Pteromylaeus bovinus), which belongs to the eagle ray family, have been included in the Ocean Tunnel of the Oceanogràfic of the City of the Arts and Sciences. The largest weighs 36 kilograms and with its wings extended has a total length of some 1.30 metres.

The General Manager of the City of Arts and Sciences, Jorge Vela, and the Branch Manager of El Corte Inglés on Avenida de Francia, José Ibáñez, today presented the partnering activities launched by the two organisations on the first anniversary of the store on Avenida de Francia. From the 27th of May to the 3rd of July, there will be a El Corte Inglés stand on the Calle Menor at the Science Museum and a City of Arts and Sciences stand at El Corte Inglés on Avenida de Francia with interactive games on the content of the complex and a screen with live images of the Dolphin House a L’Oceanogràfic.

The World Tourism Organisation has put forward the City of Arts and Sciences as an example of investment made by public authorities to promote tourism in a city and encourage the arrival of international visitors. The complex was taking part in the seminar on “The Future of City Tourism in Europe”, held in Coimbra, Portugal, on the 19th and 20th of May as part of the 43rd meeting of the World Tourism Organisation Commission for Europe.

The Hemisfèric starts a series of conferences on the Nile
The Hemisfèric of the City of the Arts and Sciences has organised several lectures that will explain some of the secrets of the Nile, the great African river. In these talks we will get to know three different visions of this historical watercourse. The writer and journalist Javier Reverte will contribute his point of view, based on literature and travel writing, with tomorrow’s lecture "Exploring the Nile" (Thursday 28 April in the Cinema Hall of the Hemisfèric).

The City of Arts and Sciences today continues its series “Tuesdays at L’Oceanogràfic” with the lecture “Unravelling the effects of climate change and other human impact on marine and coastal ecosystems” given by Stephen Hawkins of the UK’s Marine Biology Association (MBA) at 6pm in the Auditorio Mar Rojo. El Director General de la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, Jorge Vela, inaugura mañana la exposición ¿Tiburones¿ en el Oceanográfico, una muestra ubicada en el Edificio de Acceso y que podrá visitarse hasta el 31 de julio.
