WETLANDS

With a spectacular sphere 26 m in height, the Wetland Space represents two of the most curious wetland areas on the planet: the mangrove swamp and the fen. Both tend to occupy a narrow coastal strip that acts as a transition zone between land and marine environments; they are among the habitats with the most ecological value on the planet.

1.-Mangrove Lands.

This part of the installations represents those limited areas of shallow water found in tropical and subtropical areas, which are characterised by their great biological diversity. They are peculiar for the formation of woods of tall trees, which with a complex system of aerial roots form dense shady landscapes. Typical fauna includes the black bass, the sun perch, the snapper, and birds such as the roseate spoonbill and the scarlet ibis, together with reptiles such as the slider turtle.

2.- The Mediterranean Fen.

This area reproduces an ecosystem that is characteristic of the Mediterranean coast as in the case of the Valencia Albufera. These wetlands attract numerous native species and constitute a key habitat for the conservation and sustainability of the European avifauna.

Birds such as the night heron and various species of egrets, reptiles such as the stripe-necked terrapin, and fish such as the European eel, the barbel, and the common carp can be found in this environment.
