ACTIVITIES

The Oceanogràfic of the City of the Arts and Sciences has been conceived not only as a leisure and entertainment project, but also as one of education and research into sea science that aims to raise awareness of the need for preserving biodiversity.

The large size of the aquariums, the lack of visual barriers, and the spatial installations such as tunnels and vaults allow us to penetrate this underwater world. We will be transported to a unique environment that makes us receptive to a conservation message, in accordance with the objectives of the scientific and cultural dissemination complex that has been promoted by the Generalitat Valenciana.

The centre is particularly notable regarding the need to get to know and conserve what is nearest to us, i.e. the Mediterranean Sea, and in general the concern for the “health of the sea”. For this to occur, scientific and educational programmes in keeping with the philosophy of the most modern and important aquariums in the world are being developed.

The main objectives of this latest-generation aquarium that is part of the City of the Arts and Sciences of Valencia is to reproduce the most important marine ecosystems in the world in order to promote and research these environments and to contribute to the recuperation and defence of marine life.

The organisation in themes of its exhibitions thus gives a vision of marine ecosystems and their huge biodiversity, making the Oceanográfico the most important centre for the defence and conservation of marine life, together with its educational and research project that is on a par with its architectural and technological design.
